Hello!
It has been quite a while since I have even been to this side of the web! And for that, I apologize. The last few months have been quite chaotic and disrupting for us. In August, the Northshore of Louisiana (north of Lake Ponchatrain) flooded severely, so severely that it was named the Historic Flood of 2016. Areas that have never been flooded before did just that, and guess who's apartment got hit too? That's right, our's did. Almost two months later, we are back home and adjusting to normalcy again after having lived in a hotel for so long. Even Sunny and Oakley are super happy, but I think more so for the new furnishings than anything else. It was all extremely devastating - I lost the majority of my artwork, many prized books (a paperback copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire I've had since I was a fourth grader was one that fell victim); a lot of Daniel's dad's artwork was ruined, and I was only able to save maybe four or five pieces; and our home even was looted, so I lost an iPod, my 3DS and all of its games. But alas, we are all together, happy, healthy, and safe.
We had to postpone our wedding, since we had to use all of our savings to replace our couch, bed, and other miscellaneous items. It just didn't feel responsible nor feasible to try to buy new furniture and try to fund a wedding. However, we have certainly been in good spirits, even looking at venues (and I have my eye on a local plantation house that is extremely affordable on our tight budget). Since I am trying to go to grad school, we are looking at February for our new date.
Unfortunately their are still people displaced from this flood. We were lucky enough to have such a kind land owner who got these apartments back in shape in no time, while others who own homes are having difficulty with a number of issues. We also did not have as bad of water as others did; some had water to their roofs. Please keep those families in your thoughts; this has been a devastating ordeal for so many. It was heartbreaking to see so much that people had worked for just ruined by flood waters... their prized possessions literally washed away.
I have also been in some sort of creative rut. While staying at the hotel, I bought a new sketchbook to start playing in and coming up with ideas. It's like I want to make work, but I make excuses as to why I can't. I am trying to get out of that, and the other day something clicked. For the first time since I graduated college, I felt the familiar rush of creativity. I was goofing around, just snapping some images of the cats and around the house when the idea struck me almost dumb, I had to find my sketchbook - I had to write this idea down before it vanished! After five minutes of searching for the book and a pen whilst grasping onto the idea, I went to town. I came up with a new series, one that is one a different personal level than Synchronous is. I am very excited to be working on this new adventure, albeit almost a simple one. The series will be called You Touch, I Touch. It will be an observation of the mundaity of life, and the simple beauty that is instilled in spaces that are occupied. I'm very excited to pull myself out of this rut and to feel those juices flowing. Almost like a fire burning in my soul.
I just realized that I never wrote about Oakley! In July, a little two month kitten showed up on our doorstep, and never left. Now he is a romping six month old with the sweetest of hearts (he is such a momma's boy too!). he adopted us, and we could not be anymore happy with his goofy little personality. Sunny has taken to him as well, although he is highly annoyed by him most of the time.
For now that's all I have to report, but be on the lookout for me starting to post new images!
xoxo
